Northwick Park Hospitalk
Prime Square Services were appointed to undertake a number of mechanical installation and upgrade works at Northwick Park Hospital, including modifications to the existing heating and chilled water systems, new plant room distribution, AHU connections and hot water plant upgrades.
As part of the works, PSS installed new LTHW and CHW pipework from the existing live systems, distributing through the plant room and up to roof level to serve a new heat battery and roof-mounted Air Handling Unit.
The installation included connections to the AHU cooling, heating and frost protection coils, together with the associated valve arrangements and supports.
The majority of the carbon steel pipework was prefabricated off-site into spool sections, helping to reduce site installation time and minimise disruption within the live hospital environment. At roof level, pipework was supported using a Big Foot Unistrut system, avoiding the need for mechanical fixings or penetrations through the existing roof structure.
PSS also carried out the replacement of the existing hot water header and pump arrangement. This included draining down and removing the existing header, pumps and associated pipework, installing two new twin-head pumps, replacing 150mm isolation valves and installing a new 150mm copper header with brazed fittings.
The new pump arrangement incorporated temperature and pressure gauges, binder test points, non-return valves, strainers and isolation valves, with the completed pipework installation tested prior to handover.
These works demonstrate Prime Square Services’ capability to deliver complex mechanical pipework installations and plant upgrades within live healthcare environments, combining off-site prefabrication with carefully planned site installation to minimise disruption to existing services.
